Plans are moving forward for the construction of a laundromat and retail stores on an L-shaped parcel of land bordering both Sunrise Highway and Albany Avenue in North Amityville

.

The proposal, by Bobby and Tommy Lau, had gone before the Babylon Town Planning Board in August and the developers were asked to make some minor changes, including eliminating one parking spot, and then resubmit the plans.

According to the developer’s architect, Harold E. Gebhard of Lindenhurst, those changes have been made and the Laus are preparing to begin construction on the site in several months.

The plan calls for a 15,641 square retail center for the laundromat with a partial second floor of 10,315 feet over the laundromat for storage. Four additional single-story units are planned and their uses have not been determined. They are zoned for business E business. The applicants operate similar properties in Islip and Bay Shore.

There will be ingress and egress from both Albany Avenue and Sunrise Highway. The retail space will be located on the southwestern portion of the property, with parking on the north and east sides of the site.

The existing Albany Avenue parcels have two abandoned homes while the Sunrise Highway portion is vacant
